Global Health Perspectives

Take your DCN education even further and apply to participate in our Global Health Perspectives program.

Truly living our purpose as nurses, the Denver College of Nursing’s Global Health Perspectives program provides unique cross-cultural learning opportunities for both students and alumni in communities around the world. This inclusive outreach program combines classroom training with service learning internships as participants provide essential healthcare to underserved populations in geographic areas beyond our local communities.

Under the mentorship and supervision of DCN faculty members, GHP students may travel to both domestic and international locations, expanding their world view as well as their nursing expertise. Participants gain new perspectives, refine their skills, and enjoy a unique learning experience that will forever shape their career.

Students may be invited to participate in GHP from their very first quarter at DCN through demonstrated interest and academic success.  Student membership in GHP requires service learning volunteer hours and attendance at global development symposiums. DCN Alumni may apply for membership.  After two quarters of GHP membership and completion of Advanced Medical/Surgical nursing courses, students are eligible to apply for a GHP Service Learning Internship. Upon successful completion of GHP internships, students may earn clinical credit for their work.

This unique outreach program provides participants with a perspective on healthcare that is not readily available in other institutions and promises to be a highlight of your education.  Recent GHP service learning internships have taken participants to London, Peru, Uganda, India and the Dominican Republic.
