Diana's Story: Denver College of Nursing Alumnus

Diana always knew she wanted to be a nurse, but her passion deepened at 12 when she was diagnosed with scoliosis. Facing a difficult medical journey, she was inspired by the compassionate care of nurses who supported her through the process. Determined to follow this path, she pursued nursing, gaining experience as a certified nurse aide in an orthopedic spine unit. Choosing Denver College of Nursing felt right, and now, working in orthopedic spine care in New Jersey, she finds fulfillment in helping patients facing the same challenges she once did.

Initially teaching pathophysiology at DCN, he decided to enroll in nursing school to better relate to his students, experiencing firsthand the challenges they faced. Although he initially had no intention of practicing nursing, his capstone experience at a hospital intrigued him, particularly after observing a robotic-assisted surgery. Encouraged repeatedly by hospital staff, he ultimately accepted a job in the operating room, finding fulfillment in merging clinical practice with teaching. Throughout his journey, DCN provided flexible support, accommodating his dual roles and enabling his continued professional growth.

For Shannon Fuller, the MSN program has significantly enriched her education after 16 years of nursing. She shared that the program helped her grow as a leader and refine her teaching approach—learning how to engage the classroom, present material in interesting ways, and make complex concepts easily click for students. Combining her role as both an educator and a nurse has proven to be the perfect fit.
